In Ireland, pest control companies regularly trap feral cats and kill them -- a practice that must be stopped immediately.

Stop the Slaughter of Feral Cats in Ireland

All cats, no matter whether they're feral or someone's pets, should have the right to live without fear of being trapped by a stranger and potentially murdered for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. That's why Care2 member Maureen G. started a petition asking Ireland to ban the trapping and killing of feral cats.

In Ireland, pest control or "wildlife management" companies frequently kidnap feral cats off the streets to kill them or release them in places where they're unfamiliar with the territory. They say this is necessary to "prevent the spread of disease," but in reality, science shows feral cat colonies pose no health risks to humans.

Obviously, there are more effective, far less cruel ways to reduce feral cat populations than by indiscriminately killing them. Neutering or spaying the cats rather than slaughtering them outright, for example, would be a much better long-term solution to the issue -- and it wouldn't carry the risk of accidentally murdering someone's beloved pet.

In Ireland, there is no legislation to protect feral cats and save them from suffering. Please ask Ireland to ban the killing of feral cats!

INADMÍSSÍVEL: —TAILÂNDIA ASSASSINOS DE CÃES

In Thailand, killing dogs to export their bones or skin to foreign countries is illegal. But that hasn't stopped smugglers from doing it anyway -- and murdering thousands of dogs in the process.

Thailand: Crack Down on Dog-Skin Trade
please share
it helps!

If you're a golfing enthusiast, think twice before you put on those golf gloves -- they might actually be made out of someone's beloved pet dog.

It's sad, but true: throughout Asia, smuggling of live dogs, dog meat and dog skins happens all the time, with very little action taken to prevent it. Though killing dogs to export their bones or skin to foreign countries is illegal in Thailand, that hasn't stopped smugglers from trying to make an enormous profit from it. Recently, a pile of hundreds of dog skins was found dumped in a forest in Sakon Nakhon, which borders Laos.

The live dogs are usually sold for $10 an animal. They're then butchered and skinned; their meat goes to Vietnam or China, where it is considered a delicacy, and their skins go all over the world to make gloves, purses or wallets.

And it's not just strays -- pet dogs are often kidnapped from their loving families and murdered right alongside the feral ones.

Clearly, the country needs to take more action to stop this horrific cycle, and fast. Tell Thailand to crack down on the dog-skin trade!

CRUELDADE REVOLTANTE: TRISTE FIM DOS CÃES DE CAÇA ESPANHÓIS

I live in Spain and I was horrified when I found out that hunters in my country are getting away with killing their hunting dogs. Every spring, hunters kill thousands of healthy dogs -- and the owners are not brought to justice because hunting dogs are under our laws classified as "working labor" and not as pets.

I started a petition asking the government to crack down on the people who are killing their hunting dogs and to amend animal welfare laws so they protect hunting dogs. Will you sign it?

Spanish hunting dogs include galgos (greyhounds), podencos, setters, pointers, and more. They are extremely gentle dogs who are good with people and eager to please.

Owners kill their hunting dogs when they "embarrass" their owners who do not want to feed them, or are deemed no longer useful.

One common way of killing these dogs is called "The Typewriter." Through this method, people hang the dogs by the neck just high enough so that they have to support themselves using their back legs.

Eventually, the dogs get too tired to stand any longer, so they collapse and hang themselves, slowly dying in agony and terror. It's called "The Typewriter" because of the noise the dogs' nails make as they skitter frantically on the ground, trying to get free.

Other times, hunters abandon the dogs to starve to death or shoot them.

This is illegal, but the hunters are rarely punished for it as hunting dogs are not legally protected as pets. In fact, some don't even know that it is outlawed, since people have been murdering their dogs in this way for generations.

It's outrageous that people aren't punished for these cruel killings. The laws need to protect these dogs and police need to arrest the hunters who mishandle and murder these animals. There should be appropriate laws which allow our courts to bring them to prison and punish them.

Please sign my petition to demand that the authorities crack down on the practice and keep hunting dogs safe by including all kinds of dogs in the Spanish animal welfare laws.

ICE HORROR STORY!!!!

We are determined to do all we can to stop Canada's annual slaughter of baby seals, but we need your help! Please make a generous gift today to save seals' and other animals' lives.

In Canada, harp seals can be killed as soon as they lose their white baby fur at just a few weeks of age, and most are killed when they are younger than 3 months old. Even after seals lose their white fur, they're still just babies. They may be learning to swim or on the verge of eating their first solid foods. They spend their days sleeping, playing and learning to survive on the peaceful ice floes of Canada's Atlantic coast.

Left to thrive in the wild with their loved ones, they could live for 35 years. But today, we just received word that Canada's annual commercial seal slaughter has begun – which means that tens of thousands of baby seals are about to be shot, bludgeoned and maybe even skinned alive.

After years of international outrage and hard work by PETA and our affiliates to get seal products banned in the EU, the US and even Russia, the horrific seal slaughter is still limping along on its last legs only because it's being propped up by the government through Canadian tax dollars. We need to put an end to it – before even more baby seals die. Please help make 2014 the year that we stop this cruel slaughter forever.

Your donation will help save countless baby seals from a terrifying, painful death and will go directly to work in order to fund all our efforts for animals. Carla Sofia, please make a gift to PETA today!

Every year, tens of thousands of seals are barbarically slaughtered for their skin. Sealers shoot and bludgeon the defenceless babies with crude clubs called "hakapiks" – thick wooden bats with a sharp metal hook at one end. Some seals don't die after the first strike. They may continue to thrash and bleed out in front of other terrified seals about to meet the same fate.

Thanks to people like you who care, we can end this massacre. Just last November, the World Trade Organisation (WTO) ruled to uphold the EU ban on seal-fur imports. The Canadian government is still trying to overturn the decision, but we're working to ensure that the ban remains in place by attending WTO hearings and working with Jude Law, Rhys Ifans and other celebrities to spotlight the issue. With your support, we'll push hard to protect helpless seals from this cruel industry.

We're so close to seeing an end to Canada's annual seal slaughter, but we need your help. Donate today and help protect the thousands of baby seals who face being horrifically killed in Canada every year.

Thank you so much for your tireless support. We've seen significant progress in recent years, and I know that together, we can finally put an end to the barbaric seal slaughter.

Kind Regards,

Ingrid E Newkirk
Founder

PS: This year must be the last that the Canadian seal slaughter takes place. Please, make a donation to PETA right now. With your help, we can save seals' and other animals' lives.
