ICE HORROR STORY!!!!
In Canada, harp seals can be killed as soon as they lose their white baby fur at just a few weeks of age, and most are killed when they are younger than 3 months old. Even after seals lose their white fur, they're still just babies. They may be learning to swim or on the verge of eating their first solid foods. They spend their days sleeping, playing and learning to survive on the peaceful ice floes of Canada's Atlantic coast.
Left to thrive in the wild with their loved ones, they could live for 35 years. But today, we just received word that Canada's annual commercial seal slaughter has begun – which means that tens of thousands of baby seals are about to be shot, bludgeoned and maybe even skinned alive.
After years of international outrage and hard work by PETA and our affiliates to get seal products banned in the EU, the US and even Russia, the horrific seal slaughter is still limping along on its last legs only because it's being propped up by the government through Canadian tax dollars. We need to put an end to it – before even more baby seals die. Please help make 2014 the year that we stop this cruel slaughter forever.
Your donation will help save countless baby seals from a terrifying, painful death and will go directly to work in order to fund all our efforts for animals. Carla Sofia, please make a gift to PETA today!
Every year, tens of thousands of seals are barbarically slaughtered for their skin. Sealers shoot and bludgeon the defenceless babies with crude clubs called "hakapiks" – thick wooden bats with a sharp metal hook at one end. Some seals don't die after the first strike. They may continue to thrash and bleed out in front of other terrified seals about to meet the same fate.
Thanks to people like you who care, we can end this massacre. Just last November, the World Trade Organisation (WTO) ruled to uphold the EU ban on seal-fur imports. The Canadian government is still trying to overturn the decision, but we're working to ensure that the ban remains in place by attending WTO hearings and working with Jude Law, Rhys Ifans and other celebrities to spotlight the issue. With your support, we'll push hard to protect helpless seals from this cruel industry.
We're so close to seeing an end to Canada's annual seal slaughter, but we need your help. Donate today and help protect the thousands of baby seals who face being horrifically killed in Canada every year.
Thank you so much for your tireless support. We've seen significant progress in recent years, and I know that together, we can finally put an end to the barbaric seal slaughter.
Kind Regards,
